About the "THIS IS PUBLIC HEALTH" Campaign

Most people don't understand what public health is, much less how it impacts their daily lives. The “This Is Public Health” campaign was designed to let people know that public health affects them on a daily basis and we are only as healthy as the world we live in.

The campaign utilizes stickers with the slogan “This is Public Health” placed in strategic locations around communities to build awareness of the many ways in which public health impacts our well being. Piloted during National Public Health Week 2008 by public health students, 160,000 stickers to date have already been used as part of the effort by many other organizations and individuals from across the nation and across the world.

An online element of the campaign, http://www.thisispublichealth.org, features an interactive map that collects Flickr photos uploaded by students and other campaign organizers, and places them inside an interactive Google map so that the user may explore where, and in what ways, public health has improved their community. A video documenting the sticker campaign in action in NYC is highlighted on the homepage of the “This is Public Health” website. The video was produced with the assistance of students from Columbia University 's Mailman School of Public Health. There are more student videos at Campaign Photohttp://www.thisispublichealth.org/schools.html.

The simple statement – “This is Public Health” - has proven to be a powerful tool in raising awareness about and support for public health efforts nationwide. We invite you to join us in spreading this message.
